Last year the Dales School in Blyth received a pacer train from Network Rail. They haven’t missed a beat since, having inspired TEXACO to build a safe and accessible station and platform, providing access from the playground up to the carriages.
The aspiration for the train is to become a STEM learning environment, where staff from the Dales school, trained by Network Rail can teach students from their own school and neighbouring schools about rail safety. The carriages will each have a unique purpose, one being developed as a dedicated STEM carriage and the other as a library, the school are incredibly keen to develop the train as a welcoming community space.
The station unveiling, took place today and was led by children from the school with their own unique railway song. James and Sally from the Dales are seeking to raise much needed funds to continue their work to make their vision for the train a reality.
