Public inquiry held into rail plans

As 2021 drew to a close a public inquiry was held for a Transport and Works Act Order (TWAO), which is needed for authorising all new rail or tram schemes.

The hearing, held in Blyth Civic Centre for four weeks, enabled Northumberland residents, county councillors and businesses to speak about the plans.

A decision by the Government appointed inspector is due in May 2022.

Construction is set to begin in earnest in summer 2022, with services expected to start running by winter 2023.
