Engineering works are planned on the Northumberland Line during the morning of Sunday 9th August 2026. Works will be taking place on the track at Bedlington and buses will replace trains between Ashington and Newsham, with trains then running between Newsham and Newcastle on the usual Sunday timetable. Buses will leave Ashington at 08:02, 09:02, 10:02 & 11:02 for Newsham and the first train will be at 12:38 towards Newcastle & Metrocentre. Buses will leave Bedlington at 08:1

As part of the development of the Northumberland Line, poet John Challis has written a poem to commemorate the lines rich history, which is shared with today's users of the line. The poem has a stanza for each of the line's six new stations and can also be seen at each of the Northumberland Line's new stations. We hope you enjoy it.

Now that all six stations are open on the Northumberland Line and track works have been completed, we won't be sharing any future "business as usual" works that Network Rail carry out along the line. Today marks one month since the station at Bedlington opened to the public. Overnight works will be taking place on the platforms at Bedlington station from Monday 27th April for up to 2 weeks to allow for cable labeling works to take place at lighting columns. The works will happen between 11pm and 6am (between the last train departing and the first train running the following morning). The works are not expected to be noisy.

Following the changes made to Nexus Pop Fares from 1st April 2026, some of the rail only fares have also been revised on the Northumberland Line. The positive is that rail only fares for 3 or 4 zone journeys have been reduced. From Monday 23rd March, Arriva will provide a new peak time bus link to serve the Northumberland Line station at Blyth Bebside. The new route 3 will run from Blyth Bus Station to Blyth Bebside station via Newsham Road, Isabella, Cowpen Shops, Briardale Road, Blyth Community College, Bebside Middle School and Bebside Interchange.
