Every year, the rail industry has an issue when it comes to leaves falling onto tracks. It's often joked about, but, it's a serious problem that causes a mulch on the rails which causes trains to have issues when accelerating or braking. These issues impact on performance, with trains being delayed as drivers have to adapt how they drive to keep the trains moving.

Network Rail also have plans to reduce vegetation around railway lines and they also run special trains to help to clear the rails, with those special trains running on the Northumberland Line to help clear the line.

We have seen disruption on the line already this autumn and this is likely to continue, with the video explaining why leaves are a problem and how the rail industry are trying to keep the delays and disruption to a minimum.
