We're sharing some great news from Northern Trains as mobility scooters can now be carried on their trains.

Customers who want to travel with a mobility scooter need to apply for a permit and that needs to be a permit plus for users in the North East. The permit plus criteria is based on the following;

  • Maximum length of 120cm

  • Maximum width of 60cm

  • Maximum turning circle of 120cm

  • Maximum combined weight of scooter and user: 300kg (47 stone)

  • Fitted with anti-tip wheels

  • Minimum climbing angle of 6°

  • Be able to travel at a maximum of 4mph

Stations on the Northumberland Line are all scooter friendly with the exception of Manors, where the only access to the station is via a footbridge.
