Ashington Active Travel Corridor

This week is your last chance to give your views on the Ashington Active Travel Corridor as our consultation ends on Friday 23rd June 2023.

The main objective of the scheme is to improve active travel connectivity by creating segregated walking and cycling links which facilitate safer and healthier travel.

The Ashington route forms a corridor that will link the town centre to existing sites, the new Northumberland Line station, and existing infrastructure in North Seaton with connectivity with national and local cycle routes. The scheme route extent is shown in the plan below.

It is anticipated that, by delivering improved active travel infrastructure which facilitates sustainable travel, this would:

  • Support economic activity by connecting to the new Northumberland Line station and existing areas between Ashington and North Seaton.

  • Improve safety and health of those living and working in the area by offering better infrastructure that facilitates uptake for active travel and therefore increases levels of physical activity while reducing susceptibility to diseases associated with ill-health and poor air quality.
