Ahead of the Northumberland Line opening later this summer, we've been delivering rail safety presentations to local schools so that school children are aware that we'll have faster and more frequent trains running along the line.
The sessions have included information on the new stations and track, journey opportunities that the line will bring, fares for young people with Pop Blue, school locations in relation to the line and how to use stations and level crossings safely.
In Rail Safety Week, we've hit a milestone in our delivery as we've now spoken to over 12,500 students and created £10.1 million of social value using the rail social value tool. It's been a huge team effort from Northumberland County Council, Northern Trains, Network Rail, Nexus and Morgan Sindall to deliver rail safety presentations and there's still some more schools to deliver to before the school summer holidays.
To celebrate Rail Safety Week, we delivered to students at The Blyth Academy, supported by Northumberland County Council and Northern Trains. The presenters included one of the new conductors from Northern's team that will be based in Ashington.
