Travelling on the Northumberland Line has proved to be very popular, especially for leisure journeys, but, did you know that you can take your bike on the train ?

There are two cycle spaces on every train and the doors in the middle of the train are where the cycle storage area is - click here for an introduction to the trains.

If you're looking for some inspiration for a cycling trip out by train, then Northern have partnered with komoot to create routes from the Northumberland Line to enjoy on your bike. The routes are suitable for either experienced or novice cyclists. Click here for more information on the routes available.
From Seaton Delaval, there's curated cycle routes to Seaton Delaval Hall or Whitley Bay & St Mary's Lighthouse.
From Newsham, there's curated cycle routes to Blyth Beach or Seaton Delaval Hall.
From Ashington, there's curated cycle routes to Newbiggin-by-the-Sea or Bothal Castle.
Each route is a loop, to keep the trip fun.

Did you also know that we've got cycle storage at every Northumberland Line station - every station has space for at least 20 bikes in secure racking that's monitored by CCTV. So, even if you don't want to take your bike on the train, you know that you can store it securely at any of our stations.

Using the cycle storage on the Northumberland Line stations is really easy as there's a handy user guide attached to each cycle shelter.
The cycle shelters are easy to find at Ashington, Newsham and Seaton Delaval stations, with Newsham having cycle shelters next to both northbound and southbound platforms.
Make sure you bring a cycle lock with
you to keep your bike secure.
