As well as the work to build 6 new stations and lots of track works on the Northumberland Line, there’s also lots of great work going on behind the scenes in our local communities. There’s a huge mix of training and work opportunities, work in the community and work in schools and education going on too. Here’s some highlights of what’s been delivered in March:
2 work placements for a Women into Construction pilot programme have taken place, with one candidate being offered an apprenticeship role on the construction project.
A site clearance at Forest Hall Young People’s Club so that an outside area can be used for sport and recreation purposes.
A World of Work Careers Fair was attended at Duke’s Secondary School, along with an ongoing mentoring programme.
Bridge Building & Dream Big for Engineering workshops were delivered at 2 local schools.
A group from the project team had a volunteer day at the Dales School to carry out some preparation work on their Pacer train so that one of the carriages can have an internal repaint.
New hoardings celebrating the line's heritage and community connections have been erected in Ashington.
