The Northumberland Line got some fantastic national TV coverage when it was featured in Great Coastal Railway Journeys with Michael Portillo on BBC2 this month.
For five nights the coastline of Northumberland was the setting for Michael’s rail adventure from Newcastle to England’s northernmost town, Berwick. The shows featured Michael travelling aboard the Metro, the East Coast Main Line and the Tyne Valley line.
And on Tuesday night's episode (Feb 8) he stopped off at Bedlington Station to interview deputy council leader Richard Wearmouth & find out more about plans for the scheme. The former MP even got to see a train going past on a familiarisation run - you can watch this episode again on the BBC iPlayer.
