In order to facilitate road surfacing works around the new Bedlington Station, please be advised that overnight temporary road closures will be in place from Thursday 19th February 2026 until Thursday 26th February 2026 between the hours of 9:00pm – 6:00am each evening. These moving road closures will take place on Station Road/Melrose Villas, Ravensworth Street/ Station Street, Palace Road and Clayton Street including across the level crossings at both Bedlington North and South. Please note that only one level crossing will be closed under these temporary road closures at any one time.
Please see below for image of working areas (shown in red).

During this time a vehicle diversion route will be in place which will be clearly signposted with pedestrian access remaining in place throughout.
The work will start on Monday 16th February and the works will be around Barrington Road & Park Terrace. For the nights of the 16th, 17th & 18th February, the works will be conducted with temporary traffic lights and full road closures will take place on the nights of the 19th, 21st, 22nd, 23rd & 24th February between 9pm and 6am.
Works will take place around Station Road, Palace Road & Ravensworth Street on the evenings of 25th & 26th February.
Bus services will remain operational however the later services will be impacted during these road closures during the above working hours. When Bedlington South level crossing is closed, buses will divert as follows;
Services 1 & 57A - will divert via the A1147 then Red Row Drive, Barrington Road and Stakeford Road (or vice versa) and not serve St Johns Road or Station Street stops.
Service 2 - will divert via B1331 & Stead Lane to then loop via Rothesay Terrace (or vice versa) to serve the usual stops on Melrose/Jubilee Villas and not serve St Johns Road or Palace Road stops.
Service X21 - will divert via Melrose/Jubilee Villas, B1331 and A1147 then Red Row Drive, Barrington Road and Stakeford Road (or vice versa)
What to expect during the works
Throughout these works there is potential for noise and vibration. We will aim to keep disruption as minimal as practically possible and within the terms agreed with the local planning authority.
We have continuous noise monitoring equipment installed onsite to capture in real-time the noise levels being generated as well as handheld noise monitoring equipment to record noise levels per shift.
