Update on Level Crossing Closures & Engineering Work in Bedlington

We will be working in the area 24 hours a day on the following dates and times.

·        From 10.00pm on Thursday 28 March to 12.30 on Saturday 6th April.

The works will include replacing approximately 350m of track between Bedlington North and Bedlington South level crossings, as well as replacing the old style signalling system with brand new digital signals.

As part of this work, engineering trains and a machine called a tamper will need to be used. Unfortunately, these can be noisy and need to sound their horns when moving near workers to help ensure safety. We will limit noise from this and other activities wherever feasible, including by turning equipment off when not in use and using battery operated machinery. However, some disruption will be unavoidable.

There will be engineering trains in operation throughout the works, including overnight, to move equipment and materials between a site compound next to TT Electronics and the railway sidings at Furnace Way.

We understand that working near homes and working overnight is far from ideal and I am sorry in advance for any disruption these essential works may cause.

While the track renewal works are being undertaken, no other trains can use the track and therefore we need to complete the works as quickly as possible to limit disruption to other users of the line.

The works will require the closure Station Road at Bedlington South level crossing, Barrington Road at Bedlington North level crossing, and Bedlington North foot level crossing (also known as Delaval Court footpath). During the closures, diversion routes will be clearly signposted and a shuttle bus will be provided for pedestrians during these closures.
