One of the big changes on the Northumberland Line is that a lot of the track that the trains run on has had to be replaced. We're moving from freight trains that run at slow speeds to also having passenger trains that will run faster so that you can travel from Ashington to Newcastle in around 35 minutes.
Here's a fascinating video that shows some of the track being replaced at Bedlington & West Sleekburn in August last year.
Our next track works will also be in Bedlington and will take place over the Easter weekend and we'll be sharing more details with local residents in the coming weeks. These works will see the junction at Bedlington North replaced with new points and some new track around the corner on the line towards Ashington.
