Network Rail will be undertaking track maintenance works in the Blyth Bebside area using a machine called a Tamper, which is used to make sure the track is level. The works are essential for the continued development of the Northumberland Line rail project.
What to expect during the works
The tamping works will be undertaken along a section of track, as shown by the red line on the below map on the following dates and times:
• From 11:30pm Tuesday 18 November 2025 to 5:30am Wednesday 19 November 2025.
• From 11:30pm Wednesday 19 November 2025 to 5:30am Thursday 20 November 2025.
• From 11:30pm Thursday 20 November 2025 to 5:30am Friday 21 November 2025.

Unfortunately, this type of work can be noisy, and we will limit noise wherever feasible, including by turning equipment off when not in use and using battery operated machinery. However, some disruption will be unavoidable.
These works will form part of moving work site so will not be by any properties for the full duration of the works.
We understand that working near properties and working overnight is far from ideal and we are sorry in advance for any disruption these essential works may cause. Our teams have been briefed and will be mindful when carrying out this work, making sure all the relevant mitigations are in place to avoid excess noise.
For any queries about this track work and associated road closures please call the Network Rail National Helpline on 03457 11 41 41, which is available 24/7.
