Plessey Road in Blyth Level Crossing Upgrade Works

Updated: Apr 19

We will be installing and testing the new level crossing equipment at Plessey Road Level Crossing from 10pm on Friday 19 April to 10pm on Tuesday 30 April in the location shown below. Works will be carried out 24 hours a day.

We will need to have a full road closure over the Plessey Road Crossing while the works are taking place. A diversionary route, which has been agreed with the council, will be in place for your convenience. Pedestrian access will be maintained via a newly installed temporary pedestrian crossing which is next to the existing level crossing.

We understand that working near homes and working overnight is far from ideal and I am sorry in advance for any disruption these essential works may cause.

Our teams have been briefed and will be mindful when carrying out this work, making sure all the relevant mitigations are in place to avoid excess noise.

The temporary pedestrian crossing has been constructed on the North side of the level crossing and runs between Delaval Street & Phoenix Street.

Local buses will be diversion and will run as follows

  • X10 - from Blyth Bus Station via Rotary Way, South Newsham Road then onto normal route at Laverock Hall Road .

  • X11 - from Blyth Bus Station via Rotary Way, South Newsham Road, Newcastle Road then onto normal route at Laverock Hall Road (bus link).
