Great Work in August

The Northumberland Line isn't just about building six new stations along with new bridges, there's also some great work going on in the local community too.


The project partners deliver a huge amount of support to the local community from providing employment to local residents, creating apprenticeship opportunities for local residents as well as supporting local events and local charities.


Here are some recent highlights;


  • Morgan Sindall hosted a summer fundraiser for the Freeman Hospital's Children's Heart Unit Fund which raised £2,500, plus another £1,000 donated by one of their suppliers, Forte Engineering.


  • Network Rail hosted a drop in session at Mares Close foot crossing to show local equestrian users the newly installed safety equipment.


  • Morgan Sindall supported a student from Percy Hedley School with a work placement in their stores team.


  • Morgan Sindall sponsored the Family & Youth Zone at Northern Pride for the 2nd year running. The team engaged with almost 400 people who were interested in opportunities in engineering and construction.


  • Morgan Sindall have created 9 Apprenticeships for local school leavers, with support for another 3 existing local apprentices. There has also been 101 weeks of paid work placements created as well as 27 weeks of unpaid work placements for local students. In addition, there has also been 493 hours spent on engagement with local schools.


  • The project supported Bedlington Creatives with their knitted display of Bedlington station in Tallentyres store window in Bedlington.


  • A presentation was given to local residents who live close to the Northumberland Park station construction site ahead of the next phase of mining remediation and stations construction works commencing.
