Road Construction Works at Newsham

We will be undertaking the final phases of work to finish construction on the station and the new roundabouts on the west and east side of the railway line on the A1061 at Newsham.

Update on works for the new access to field from South Newsham Road

You will have seen that works to install a new access point to the field adjacent to Blyth Town Football Club commenced earlier this month. Please note that these works have been temporarily postponed and recommencement of works will be communicated in due course.

East roundabout footway works

Works are continuing on the footway to the north of the east roundabout. In order to complete this work safely, temporary traffic lights will be in place on South Newsham Road (A1061) from Blagdon Drive to the east roundabout commencing from Monday 21 October 2024 for up to 4 weeks.

Construction on west roundabout

Works to complete construction of the west roundabout on South Newsham Road (A1061), will take place from Monday 28 October 2024. This activity is anticipated to last until mid-December 2024. During this period traffic management will be in place in the form of temporary traffic lights which will be use at all times (24/7). This is to allow the team to safely undertake works.

Future full road closures, further traffic management and overnight works

Throughout this period there will periodic overnight works and off-peak works under traffic lights, to facilitate lighting columns, road sign installation and final surfacing on both the east and west of the new station.

Intermittent full road closures will also be required on South Newsham Road (A1061) during Winter which will be communicated in advance via letter and the Northumberland Line website. Please note that advanced notice signage will be in place ahead of the and diversion routes will be clearly signposted throughout.

What to expect during these works

During this work, there is potential for some impact on people living and working close by, however every effort will be taken to limit this where practically possible. Any noise arising from the works will be within the legal levels under UK law and every effort to keep noise, dust, and vibration, is limited as possible although some level of disturbance is to be expected.

Please note that pedestrian diversions will be in place during these works but full access routes will be maintained throughout the works.

Any significant changes to the duration of this programme or shift timings due to site specific conditions will be communicated via further updates.
